Is There Really a Beginner Guitar Lesson Online That Will Make You Play Guitar Today?

There are a great many online resources to help you get up and learning the guitar very quickly and easily, but is there one that can get you from a standing start to actually playing in the same day? We like to think our Free 10 Part Beginner Acceleration Course can - but you can see that for yourself.

Well a lot of that depends on you and how committed you are in terms of time and effort. It does not actually take that much to get you playing some very simple stuff, there are songs that consist of no more than 2 basic chords which you can pick up on day 1 if you focus on it enough.

It really depends on what you want to ultimately achieve from your guitar playing and how you should best approach getting to were you want to be. Knowing this will determine what your own personal definition of ‘playing the guitar’ is; - if you want to learn how to play fast solos and run up and down the neck like Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai then you’ll probably be more interested in learning scales and riffs over chords.

Similarly if you want to strum out and sing your favourite songs then basic chords and chord progressions will be your point of focus.

Pick and Mix your Lessons

If you go to a traditional in-person guitar teacher it is unlikely that you will play guitar today as you will start off with a broader overview of chords and scales, basic theory and the ins and outs of the guitar itself.

While this is the most sensible method to start learning you can if you like bypass it by opting for a beginner guitar lesson online that allows you to choose which module to take in which order you like…

Don’t want to bother with all that theory stuff?

Don’t do it!

Interested in scales and solos and not so bothered about chords? Go straight to that module.

Now I don’t actually recommend you take this approach – but it is available to you if that’s what you really want. I will say however that it’s not good to leave gaps in your technique and knowledge of the guitar.

I know because I learnt the accelerated way and developed a style that is very dependant on the blues scale and string bending but not so hot on the more complicated scales now that I’m moving into the jazz arena. 

Because of this I’m now having to revisit some basics and learn the sensible way – luckily I’ve got a lot of experience and knowledge behind me so learning what I missed out and newer stuff is a snap :)
